Members of the United Way for the Kawartha Lakes “Women United” group presented a cheque for $950 to the Community Care Low Income Dental Clinic on Monday. The Community Care Low Income Dental Clinic was chosen to receive this donation from the Women United Group during their last meeting.

“With the help of United Way’s financial support, the dental clinic has been able to serve more local residents each year since it opened in 2011. In 2014-15, close to 1,400 local residents received dental services from the clinic,” explains Mike Puffer, Communications Officer for Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes.
“Good oral health is important to everyone’s overall health, as well as self-esteem and a sense of well-being. The Community Care Dental Clinic can help local residents identify oral health problems before they start. The United Way’s support has been very much appreciated as we strive to meet the health care needs of the community.”

Zita Devan, a member of Women United says, “Our Women United quarterly meetings are a great opportunity to meet other like-minded women, to network and learn more about the good work agencies within our community are doing. Our Team was so pleased that the Women United chose our nomination of Community Care Dental Clinic Program to be the recipient of this month’s donations.”

Women United meets four times a year. Membership dues are $100 per meeting for a single individual or $25 per person for a team of four. Members nominate programs or agencies to be considered for a donation at each meeting and a vote is taken to determine which of the nominated programs or agencies will receive the funds collected from that meeting. All money collected is donated to the organization voted on by members at that meeting. Women United has been operating for almost 2 years.

The next meeting will be on Monday, April 11th.
